Cultural Artifact and The Social Animal

"To a certain extent every individual constructs his own version of the real world through what he perceives and processes as experience. He is the center of his universe. The only center of which he can be physically aware. Yet because man is a social animal, he is also aware that his own "boundaries", his birth and death, do not correspond with those of others. He knows that his own way of structuring reality is different from and yet, paradoxically, similar to his neighbour's. So - whether or not this is a further truism - no object, including a linguistic text, can have reality until it is perceived by the individual."
